. A nice friendly game against the new and nicer
version of Hire-It (?) and a good turn out (?) Oh, yes Jack if you're
short we'll have a couple spare!
. How many turned up? . . . . Seven - John Lynch fell asleep in
his arm chair in front of the TV, John Frisby forgot about the
cosmetic's exhibition in Debenhams he was going to, Jason pleaded
ignorance, Jon Elms had a sniffle (no doctors note) and Paul Hanvey says
he got stuck in traffic in Sainsbury's car park.
. So it ended up that Hire-It had to lend a player to the Dads -
they gave them Jack Frost!!!
SPRINGHILL DADS
Les Maros
Brian Medway - Martin Kingsbury - Andy Simpson
Dave Hedges - Tony Pascoe - Dave Smith
Jack Frost
.The Dads went on the attack from the beginning and an early
chance for Jack when a blocked shot fell at his feet and his shot was
also blocked.
. Dave S broke on the right and crossed in to Tony Pascoe who
tried a left footed drive which drifted wide.
. Tony was put through and forced a defender to make last ditch
block.
. Les was doing his bit when called on - making some terrific
saves and played out - Route 1 to Tony. Tony shot and his blocked shot
fell to Jack who also had his effort blocked and cleared.
Andy intercepted a pass from mid-field and played it up to Tony but was
robbed, the ball was played over the top and Brian and Les managed to
get in each others way leaving the forward a simple tap-in! 0 - 1
. Jack was away and put the ball through for Andy to try his luck.
His shot was blocked and went out for a throw-in.
. Hire-It caught the Dads in the wrong half of the field and
over-run their defence (?) J.D's shot was blocked but looped up and over
Les into the back of the net. 0 - 2. Andy had a header go over.
. Jack won a loose ball and played it on for Dave H to break but
lost his way. A Hire-It corner was put over Martin made the clearance
and Jack lumped it up field.
. Dave S was away and played the ball back to Tony who's shot was
blocked - ANDY SIMPSON took a touch and shot into the roof of the
net. 1 - 2
. TONY PASCOE picked up on a Hire-It mistake in defence and
coolly lobbed the keeper with the opposition screaming off-side? 2 - 2
. Hire-It were in disarray and shots were raining in, a cross from
Jack into the box and there was DAVE SMITH stretching to toe-poke
the ball into the corner of the net passed the stranded keeper.
HALF TIME
DADS 3 - 2 HIRE-IT
. Alan Jones played out to Danny and Les was quickly to the
rescue to finger tip the ball over the cross bar.
. Hire-It were through again and there was Les to the rescue again
with another great block followed up by Andy blocking the rebound on the
line. The corner was crossed in and there was that big defender with a
simple free header. 3 - 3
. Another corner to the near post, this time and a touch to Alan
Jones who was competing with Les and Brian for the ball but still
managed to tap it in. 3 - 4
. Tony was off on a run and crossed to Dave S who draws the
defender before releasing JACK FROST who's drive beat the keeper.
4 - 4.
. The Dads were starting to get into it and got a bit over
confident. Luckily, Les was up to it - bringing off two great one - on -
one blocks to thoroughly demoralise J.D. and then finger tipping a
deflected shot over the bar.
. A stinging shot was to hot for even Les and it was spilled for
J.D. to redeem himself with a tap-in. 4 - 5.
. Tony showed some nice skill and played up for Andy to trap the
ball with his gut - Dave S took on the initiative had saw his shot
blocked. It was then played up to Alan Jones who cracked one off from
distance and was amazed to see it flying into the net - no chance for
Les. 4 - 6.
. The Dads gave themselves a good shake and got themselves going
again - some terrific mid-field play between Tony, Andy, and Dave,
bewildering, before feeding JACK FROST to score from the
narrowest angle. 5 - 6.
. Then Dave Hedges put a couple of corners over and Dave Smith
headed down for BRIAN MEDWAY to greedily snap up the chance to
shoot into the back of the net. 6 - 6.
FULL TIME
DADS 6 - 6 HIRE-IT
. The Romsey Abbey bells had sounded for time but no-one wanted
to stop - looking for the golden goal. Eventually, J.D. managed to make
amends for a catalogue of missed opportunities and great keeping from
Les, to net a goal opportunity when the Dads were camped in the Hire-It
half. 6 - 7.
